History of Exhibitions

Beginning from 1996 history of VTTV-Omsk Exhibition proves that exhibitions in defence and high-tech industry is the best way to demonstrate research-technical potential, to sign contracts for supplying products
Today Omsk is known in the world as a producers of most reliable T-80UK tanks. The Kosmos rocket carriers, the AN-3 and AN-73 air planes represent the aero space industry. Serial production of Russian-Ukrainian AN-70 air plane is going to begin.
Omsk has become also a largest testing ground of manufacturing high-tech civil and dual-use products. Today it is being realised within the frameworks of several oblast target programs. The beginning has been set by the SibVPKneftegaz Program – a mass-scale production of import-substituting equipment for oil and gas extraction and for oil processing. Recently the program has been complemented by production of equipment for mining as well as for fuel-energy works. The program received the new title “SibVPKneftegazTEK Program”.

Remtransmash Program is developing. Firstly the program was oriented at repair of railway cars and locomotives. Now it is expanding to other transport spheres.
Omsk people and their colleagues from other cities will demonstrate all these peaceful developments of defence experts.

First Exhibition of Armament, Military Equipment and Conversion Products was held on September 18-21, 1996. Capabilities of defence enterprises of Ukraine, Byelorussia and Kazakhstan were demonstrated. Clearly, Omsk companies have occupied the major area of the exposition: rockets and satellites, air planes and air engines, tanks and communication means. Experts were interested in armoured personnel carriers, cannons, small firearms made in Siberia and the Urals, as well as in newest technologies and modern devices. All this was demonstrated in an assembly workshop of Polyot PO. Among the participants were 120 enterprises, representatives of Russian Ministry of Defence Industry, Rosvoorouzhenie State Company, Compomash Corporation. Foreign delegations have been represented by ambassadors, military attaches and employees of military agencies.

The Second VTTV-Omsk-99 Exhibition was more representative and impressive in design. In the spacious Polyot’s workshop (7 000 square meters of exposition area) and at the neighbouring open area (4 000 square meters) placed were more than 600 original samples and mock-ups, including 230 military ones as well as 412 samples of conversion products and dual-use products. Among the participants were 136 enterprises and defence companies from 26 republics, krais and oblasts of Russia, Kazakhstan, Byelorussia, Ukraine (beside individual participants there were collective booths, i.e. Omsk Oblast booth), high-ranking officials from ministries of defence, defence industry, economy, energy, foriegn economic relations, Rosvoorouzhenie, regional heads, regional deputy heads, representatives of “Siberian Agreement” and “The Greater Urals” Interregional Associations.
By the opening day came 143 foreign guests from 43 countries. Then came more. The largest delegations have been sent by USA (14 persons), India, Great Britain, Qatar, South Korea, Egypt, Nigeria and Sweden (5-7 persons). Among foreign representatives not only military specialists were, but also civil experts from various companies, among which were General Dynamics (USA) and Samsung (South Korea).

Majority of participants of the Third VTTV-Omsk-1999 Exhibition considered it as a prospective springboard for selling their products. Number of participants increased by 40%, and quantity of exhibits demonstrated at the proving ground increased for more than two times in comparison with 1997.

At the Third Exhibition the US delegation is one of the largest. Tradititional visitors are representatives from South and North Korea. Germans, Britishers and Arabs never miss an exhibition. Foreign guests are interested in missiles, ordnance and armour vehicles.

Each exhibition demonstrates increased interest in the SibVPKneftegaz Program’s exposition. In 1999 number of samples reached 480. The exposition was deployed at<
